Let's kill that groundhog!

   Spring sprung and then faded into winter once again. The famous groundhog said this would not happen, well he was wrong and should be in the stew-pot about now. Posted pictures of work, on Wednesday and that has been the last nice day we've had. Since then 4 inches of snow on Friday, it has mostly melted today but temperatures still remain down in the mid to low 20s here at night, can not take the chance of freeze-ups with the equipment. Having to postpone nightly cleaning of side-walks and drive-thrus till maybe next Thursday first predicted night temperature above freezing. Sunday they say to look for 2 to 5 inch of snow mixed with freezing rain if the temperatures fall a bit. 

   So should we kill that groundhog? It won't make things any better it won't make winter subside, but it may take our minds of this extended winter, that we are working thru here in Southwest MO. There will be no new washing or cleaning pictures to look at, till the weather gets warmer, and cleaning and washing season starts up again.

Now for those of you that may take the "groundhog matter" into your own hands here are a couple of recipes to help you out.

Woodchuck / Groundhog Stew

-One woodchuck(Cleaned and trimmed- no offal, but you can leave in the kidney, liver and heart).
-2 tbs Flour, pinch of salt, pinch of brown sugar and pinch of paprika

-One green pepper
-One red pepper
-One large sweet onion
-One jalapeno or habenero(if you're feeling adventurous)
-3 tbs white pepper
-1 12 oz can of dark beer(Guiness works, I hate the taste of it when drinking, but in stews it can't be beaten)
-1/4 cup of your favourite bbq sauce(I use wegmans kansas style- dark, sweet and thick)

Dredge the woodchuck in beer and bbq sauce, and then dredge it in the flour mixture up top. toss in the bottom of your pot with a pat of butter to fry. Once it browns mostly, toss in your onion, let sit for a few minutes until your onions sweat. Toss in the rest of your vegetables and spices, then pour in your beer + bbq dredge, and whats left in your flour mixture. Let bubble for a bit until your beer has settled into a rather thick sauce. Pull out and eat with hot bread and butter and a cold one.

Braised Groundhog Recipe

Time for a full disclosure. This is not the first groundhog I’ve eaten. As such, I’ve learned a few things along the way. Like, for instance, groundhogs have musk glands in their armpits. YOU MUST REMOVE THESE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO THROW UP FROM THE STINK OF BRAISED MUSK GLANDS AS THEY BOIL AWAY! If you have difficulty finding (or shooting) groundhog, you can substitute two rabbits or six pounds of chicken.

Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients

1 (5 to 6 pound) groundhog, cut into 6 serving pieces

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

1 3/4 cups reduced sodium chicken broth

2 medium onions, chopped

3 cloves garlic, finely chopped

1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped

3/4 stick unsalted butter, cut into tablespoon size pieces

2 1/2 cups dry white wine

1/3 cup Dijon mustard

1/4 cup whole grain mustard

, for seasoning

Directions: 

1. Rinse the groundhog pieces, remove any fat, and cut out the glands underneath the front legs and armpits, then pat the meat dry. Season with 1 tablespoon Kosher salt and 1 teaspoon pepper.
2. Heat the oil in a large heavy skillet, then brown the meat, in batches. This will take about 5 minutes per batch. Transfer the meat to a medium heavy pot. Reserve the skillet.
3. Add the broth to the pot.
4. Pour off any fat from skillet, then add the onions, garlic, thyme, and 3 tablespoons butter and cook over medium heat, stirring and scraping up any brown bits, until onions are softened. This will take about 5 minutes.
5. Add the wine and boil until the liquid is reduced by half. This will take about 8 minutes.
6. Pour the mixture over the groundhog. Cover the pot and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Braise the groundhog until it is very tender. This will take 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
7. Transfer the groundhog to a serving dish and keep warm.
8. Bring the liquid in the pot to a boil and reduce it to about 3 cups. This will take about 10 minutes. Whisk in the mustards. Remove the pan from the heat and add the remaining 3 tablespoons butter, swirling the pot until incorporated. Season sauce with salt and pepper and pour over the groundhog.

Signs I Like

I like writing just about washing houses or power washing but it does not pull in a bunch of new viewers. So from time to time I just may go off topic, today is one of these days. Here are some signs that I like hope they you a smile or even a chuckle. Have a good day and Happy Valentines Day, FYI Valentines Day is participated by mostly by younger children, married couples and adults in committed relationship. Non committed adults and singles do not participate in this event. It took our government no telling how many man hours and at what cost to come up with this amazing fact. They could pay me $10.00 and a dinner and I could have told them: "non committed adults and singles do not participate because they have no one in their lives to sent or give a Valentine Day card or gift too, Duh!!!".

What's in a title? or best fit for what we're doing.

Well what are we? I find it hard to keep up with what we are this year, apposed to last year or the year before. Most of us do the same thing to some extent or the other, we wash or clean objects with some form of water pressure. Now weather it is low pressure or high-pressure, it is still pressure of some sort. These days we all try to find a nitch or some-thing that will set us a part in the industry. This is where the question of what we're called comes in; pressure washer, power washer, mobile contract cleaner, soft washing, high pressure washing, wood restoration, house washing, water pressure washing, cosmetic cleaner, mobile washing contractor, along with other titles that have been bandied about over the years. They come up with new categories for us to advertise in each year and they keep changing too. This all make a difference where we will place and what key words to use now or in the future.

We all want to be found on the internet. I'm not the best with understanding the search engines or I might be working in that field instead of washing. With the big push for fresh content and wording to gain a higher foot hold we have to come up with new names for what we do. Here at Cleaned by Pete do well locally ranked and that is really all we need to keep going and growing we are small and do not travel great distances for jobs. We do however fall into several fields of the industry. So when someone is looking for a local washing contractor we need to be noticed or ranked high in as many categories as possible. We're behind when looking under "pressure washing". I really never felt that this name was the best for what our company does and never used it much in titles and names, this is why we lag behind in the look-ups and why we're displayed lower on the page. Most people won't go past the first page and some never reach below half way before calling. To help get noticed I made a new video and posted it on YouTube. Titling it with the name that fits the area we need to get ranked higher in. With more views we will become a bit stronger on the search engines. I am posting it here and at our other blog for viewing, let us know what you think and thanks in advance for the views and your support of these blogs. 

Odd Jobs

While we do mostly house washing and concrete cleaning / washing at Cleaned by Pete, we'll take on smaller jobs and other forms of power washing too. When we first started our catch line was "no job to small", this still holds true today. We were out on a call when a gentleman saw us and asked if we could wash the underside of his mower. It had sat and the grass and clippings had dried in the mower belly he was trying to chip it out so the blades would turn.

He had it raised up and we went in and under washing the grass and clipping out, let is set for a couple of minuets and hit it one last time, cleaning it up for the season.

House washing Wednesday in Springfield MO

 

This is Clean by Pete's first service truck it has a heated Landa skid with a 18 horsepower motor running a 110 volt generator and a pump putting out up to 3500 pounds per square inch pushing 4.5 gallons a minute. Carrying on board all tools and hose to reach and clean you home or business. We also work off the 7 ft high walk-way above the truck great for awnings in front of your store.

"House Washing Wednesday" has arrived once again and Cleaned by Pete decided to post up some pictures of the rigs we work from. Having the right tools for the right job is what we take great pride in. The first thing you may notice is Cleaned by Pete does not pull the big trailer with those big water tanks any more. We have been operating out of two pick-ups and a 2 small trailers since we broke down the big trailer. Having not to pull the large trailer and water tanks around has shown a great savings in our operating cost, which we are passing on to our customers charging you a little less. We still have all the cleaning power we need and the tools do do the job, only we use your water tap to supply our machines. Here are some pictures of our rigs at the job sights. Little Red ready to work we are carrying 300 ft of supply line and over 400 ft of high pressure hose wands and pole from 16 inches to 28 ft. There are two washers on board one cold water 4 gpm @ 4000 psi and one hot water washer with the same power both on wheels for easy placement on your site.

At another house cleaning carrying all tools need even have a back-up hot water washer washer on board if needed. Since we come out and give you a free estimate we know just what to bring.

This is our first service truck it has a hot water Landa pressure mounted in the bed of the pickup and a work area on top of the truck where we can get up higher to work off of. Cleaned by Pete does not like to put anything on your house but cleaner we try not to use ladders for safety.

Portable hot water unit on wheels so we can push it a round. 4 gallons a minute at up to 4000 pounds per square inch, can be heated to 190 degrees, powered by a 15 hp gas engine We feel we can get a better clean and give you better service, save time and water this way.
